ABOUT THE DEPARTMENT/TEAM

The academic year in Thailand runs from May to April, with young learners at teaching centres attending two 20-week semesters and adults attending four 10-week terms, with breaks between each. There are also intensive ‘summer’ courses held around the Songkran (Thai New Year) period in March and April each year. The partner schools follow academic calendars that are broadly similar to the teaching centres, but there are some differences due to the requirement that we follow each school’s own term dates. These are often announced at short notice and remain subject to change, which can affect our staff members’ ability to plan and book leave and holidays in advance.

WHAT YOU WILL BE DOING AND WHY

Beyond the delivery of high-quality English lessons, another important requirement of postholders is the timely completion of other duties as required by the partnering school and/or the British Council. These will include administrative tasks (such as maintaining detailed lesson records and accurate assessment data, the regular marking of homework, and report writing) and attending staff meetings and training sessions.

Instructors are also expected to keep up to date with current developments in EFL/ELT to ensure that high standards are maintained, devoting time to their own personal professional development as discussed and agreed with their line manager. Attendance and delivery of INSETT workshops and conducting research into best classroom practice is an important requirement of postholders.
