JOB DETAILS

The British Council is currently recruiting for a full-time ESL Instructor (teacher) position to work within our growing network of partner schools in Chiang Mai, starting on 7 May 2018.

Instructors at our partner schools teach English to very young learners (from age 3), as well as primary and secondary learners, in fully-equipped classrooms in mainstream Thai schools.

Our programmes aim to maximise spoken communication in the classroom and provide our students with lots of opportunities to use English in a variety of contexts. We also want students to learn through stories, phonics and play.

You will be part of a small team working alongside two teaching assistants (TAs) who are fully trained in our teaching approach and will help you liaise with school stakeholders and parents. Ongoing support will be provided by an Academic Manager and Deputy Academic Manager who oversee our three Chiang Mai partner school programmes.

Developmental opportunities (including observations and an INSETT scheme) will be provided, as well as peer observations with our team of experienced teachers also based at our partner schools. The postholder will also be eligible to apply for funding and support for the Trinity DipTESOL and/or the TYLEC.

QUALIFICATIONS

To be considered for this role, the following are essential:

• an undergraduate degree
• TEFL-I status (i.e. CELTA / Trinity CertTESOL / equivalent)
• two years of full-time post-certificate teaching experience (including Kindergarten and/or Primary).

Having a PGCE, DELTA/DipTESOL or Early Years qualification would provide an advantage, as would experience of teaching in a mainstream school context (especially in Thailand).

Please apply directly at our online jobs portal: jobs.britishcouncil.org

Ajarn

Ajarn.com was started as a small hobby website in 1999 by Ian McNamara. It was a simple way for one Bangkok teacher to share his Thailand experiences and pass on advice. The website developed a loyal and enthusiastic following. In 2004, Ian handed over the reins to Phil Williams and 'Bangkok Phil' has run the ajarn website ever since.
