Job description
25 contact hours per week and an average of 18 to 24 students in each class. ASD program is aligned with Common Core Standards and SEP (Mexican Ministry of Education) Preschool Program.
A typical day for Kindergarten Faculty:
The day for teachers will begin at 7:30am, with students arriving to school between 7:40am and 9am. Formal arriving hour is at 8:45; we commence classes at 9am and continue until 1:45 pm. Content taught includes Language Arts, Science, and Math. Language Arts and Math are covered on a daily basis, while Science is covered once a week. Every homeroom teacher has an assistant teacher who is with students all day, supporting them and helping the teacher prepare and teach his/her classes.
Lunch: (between 10:00 to 10:20)
Students have lunch at the cafeteria, as soon as students finish, they may go to recess for another 20 minutes. Teachers should be with students at all times.
During the week, every class has several 45 minutes long special classes that are taught by other faculty. Faculty responsible for core content have breaks during these periods: PE and Tech classes twice a week, Yoga and Music classes once a week each. The assistant teacher accompanies students to these classes or if the homeroom teacher prefers, he/she may go to these classes with the students while the assistant teacher stays in the classroom preparing material for the school day.
Dismissal is at 1:45pm, faculty is responsible for students up until 2:15 and then, return to their classrooms until 3:00. Faculty is dismissed at 3:00. School provides transportation to take teachers down town.
Support for Teachers:
ASD has a separate Science Lab Coordinator to run science labs, as planned and scheduled by the teacher and lab coordinator. Typically, core content faculty or teacher assistants are present during the lab period, but are not responsible for preparing the lab or materials.
ASD has a support team to help at risk students in the areas of English, Math, and Spanish. Support program teachers help both in the classroom and through a series of planned pull-out sessions.
Duties: include observation of recess, play areas, lunch period, and dismissal time
