School Vision / Ethos: This is a selective private school delivering a bilingual (Primary and Junior School) and UK (Senior School) curriculum to around 2000 students from Years 1 - 12. Students in the senior school study toward Checkpoint, CIPP, IGCSE and A-Level examinations. The school is well regarded in Shenzhen and in Guangdong province. In 2005 it was accredited as one of the highest ranked schools in the province. While the majority of students are Chinese, there are also Taiwanese, Korean and Singaporean students and a smattering of Western students. The International section of the High School services 150 students currently who will graduate with UK ´A´ Levels or in AP Subjects. The school is an accredited AP provider. The graduating classes have gone to good universities, mostly in the UK and America. Teachers coming to work at this school will enjoy a high level of appreciation and respect amongst Chinese colleagues. The students are almost exclusively second language speakers and require (and seek!) more practice tasks and additional help in the uptake of skills.

Location Overview: Shenzhen itself is a wonderful planned city filled with Plants and shrubbery on the coast in the warmer southern climbs of China. The excitement of Hong Kong is not too far away. The school itself is situated in an expat area called Nanshan, and looks out across the bay to Hong Kong - which is close enough to enjoy very easily at weekends.

QUALIFICATIONS

Requirements: Candidates must have a Bachelor Degree in Education (or equivalent) and at least two years of full-time teaching experience. For Secondary roles A-Level, IB, AP or an equivalent level of teaching is required. Previous ESL experience is welcomed. Teachers who do best in this setting would be those who truly want to experience a more authentic Chinese teaching experience, are tolerant and flexible and good communicators. They need to have cultural sensitivity and be prepared to learn about the culture in which they live and work.
