ACLE (Associazione Culturale Linguistica Educational) is a non-profit association accredited by the Italian Ministry of Education. Each summer the association trains and places more than 400 mother-tongue English speakers in camps to teach English to Italian children and teenagers. We receive over 1,000 applications from prospective trainee tutors each year. We are recruiting now for Summer 2014, which runs from the end of May until mid-September.
Training
After their initial application, prospective trainee tutors complete a distance-learning course. Successful candidates are then invited to a 5-day, 40-hour orientation in Italy before they are sent to one of our camps. The orientation prepares trainee tutors for their teaching position by providing them with activities, songs and games to teach the English language. In addition, we provide a manual and ideas on lesson plans and drama skits. Trainee tutors need to bring their knowledge of songs, games, and drama as well as their own creativity and ideas to make the camps enjoyable for the children and themselves.
Trainee tutors who successfully complete the distance-learning course, orientation, and approximately 120-hours of supervised tutoring in the field will receive a Teaching English as a Foreign Language Through Theatre and Play certificate (TEFL.TP), accredited by the World TEFL Accrediting Commission.
During each part of the course, trainee tutors are observed and given feedback to help them improve their performance.
Our Camps
ACLE has two kinds of Camps: Summer Camps and City Camps.
Summer Camps
Summer Camps are residential and usually held in a hotel where the children come and stay for a week at a time. Trainee tutors also stay at the hotel and work all week with the children, providing activities such as pre-organized lessons, drama, games, sports, and evening activities.
City Camps
City Camps last for one or two weeks and are usually held at local schools. Trainee tutors are usually hosted in families whose children are attending the camp.
